While you'll find plenty of shopping opportunity within the city centre of Edinburgh, there are a few noteworthy options if you head slightly further afield.
Each of these options is easily accessible via Lothian Buses, the local bus transport authority.
Or you can walk, which is an option for all but the Gyle shopping plaza.
Stockbridge
Just 10-15 minutes downhill from George Street is the leafy, trendy neighbourhood of Stockbridge.
It's a terrific place to stay during an Edinburgh visit with many bed & breakfasts in the area.
The main street in Stockbridge is lined with charity shops, speciality retailers, cafes with homemade goods and fantastic pubs. If you can't find it in town, you're bound to find something here.
Buses 24, 29, and 42 will drop you off in Stockbridge.
Morningside
A couple of miles south of Edinburgh city centre is the neighbourhood of Morningside, home to Edinburgh's famous and elite. The stylish area has tons of artist outlets, gourmet food stores, and even shoppers with empty pockets could spend an entire afternoon just window browsing all that is on offer.
Buses 11, 15, 16, and 23 all pass through Morningside.
Ocean Terminal
You might have good reason to stop by Ocean Terminal in Leith Harbour anyway - the grand Royal Yacht Britannia is housed here. But the multi-storey complex has some fantastic shopping and likely is the most popular "mall" in the inner city.
Both high-street brands and local shops can be found.
Buses 1, 11, 22, 34, 35 and 36 terminate at Ocean Terminal.
