(Photo is of the rear entrance on Rose Street.) A huge great looking Weatherspoon pub converted from a bank. It has a huge main bar in the magnificent banking hall (check out that ceiling!!) with smaller rooms off which are good for group nights out. They do a range of beers at low prices (ridiculously cheap at certain times) which is one of the main reasons it's so popular. It also has lots of real ales and at least 6 guest ales so it is a must for the real ale drinker. It attracts lots of rugby revellers on match days looking to get tanked up. The staff are friendly and the food quite decent although it sometimes takes a long time to get served even though the bar is massive. If you want to chat over a few pints this is an ideal place as there is no loud music. (although the main bar can still get quite loud with all the banter enchoing around.) All in all, one of the better value pubs with plenty of space and a friendly atmosphere.

Submitted by Chris B on Monday, November 09, 2009: Went in last month. It was a huge Wetherspoons. No more to say really. Submitted by K on Thursday, April 03, 2008: Last time I was there, I ordered a vodka and soda. As the barmaid was scooping the ice into my glass, she dropped the scoop onto the floor. To my amazement, right in front of me, she picked it up and continued scooping! Didn´t even bother to wash it or risnse it or anything!!! Disgusting. If that´s what they do in front of customers, who knows what´s going on in the kitchen!
