Shakespeares pub, EdinburghThe Shakespeare is located in the centre of Edinburgh and is one of the oldest pubs in Edinburgh.

It is situated right next to the Usher Hall on the busy Lothian Road. Built at the same time as the theatres, it was intended to cater to the actors and theatre crowds of the day. Today, this female-friendly pub attracts a mixed, cosmopolitan crowd including shoppers, business people, students, tourists as well as regulars.

Food is available to eat anywhere in the pub. Sport is important here and they have an eight foot and a ten foot screens that show anything with the main focus being football. They also run a weekly quiz and a fortnightly karaoke.

A bit of a dump before being rennovated but it suited this place better. The foods not that great and you would be better going to one of the other nearby establishments. Don´t even try to watch the footbal here as the screens are badly place and it´s always far too busy. Pints a bit too expensive for what they are.

The finest drinking establishment in the city in my humble opinion - beats Au Bar hands down!
Submitted by Graeme on Friday, January 26, 2007:
Hmmm, not my fav! Bit of a toilet actually. Much prefer AuBar on Chadwick place.
Submitted by Chris on Friday, January 26, 2007:
Not a big fan. No decent ales and can be a bit football orientated. Au Bar Chandwick Place gets my vote.

Visiting from Canada, not too shabby, decent food and beer selection, great pub food.
