Nilnes Of Rose Street pubs, EdinburghMilnes Bar on the north side of Rose Street (just east of its junction with Hanover Street) is a popular choice for locals with a great choice of cask ales. The more observant will also find it hiding at cellar level underneath a chemists on Hanover Street.

There is also some seating outside so you can watch the world go by in the summer months. There is a restaurant bar in the basement/cellar serving traditional pub food. This cellar is the original "Milnes" - in 1910 the company Lomond and Milne opened a spirit merchants down here. By the mid 1900s this had become a pub known as Daddy Milnes and also became the meeting place for key Scottish literary figures of the day.

It's location and size mean it’s popular with hen and stag parties. Opening hours, normal: 10.00am to 12.00 midnight. Friday & Saturday: 10.00am to 1.00am. Sunday: 12.30pm to 12.00 midnight

If you want to wait 90 minutes for your roast dinner for it to arrive cold and potatoes cremated this is the place to go! Very disappointing

Was famous for being poets bar (Mcdiarmid etc) in 60s/70s then once they died/got old they made it into a rather naff poets theme bar, hence taking away what it was originally.

At least now they have taken the poets memorabilia away so less painful I think. Not my favourite but, in my view there are plenty of worse pubs!

Anyone else get robbed in Milnes on Friday night 15 Dec 2007. I caught the person who did it but the Pub Security would not phone the Police. When I did the Security Staff hit me and then let them go. Not sure if they were in on the theft but Never, Never, go outside when they say they will call the Police for you. The Police said I should write to the Pub Licence Authotity. You should do the same.

Mate, do you know how much it costs to make a rissoto of that size?
Quite a bit to be honest, you´re a prick by the sounds of it, and we don´t want your type of peopl in here. We´re a good eatery, and have won many awards, so suck my nads ya prat!

went for a pub lunch with fiance and was disgusted by how crap it was...ordered mushroom risotto for £7 and got a very small plate of boiled rice that was stuck together in one huge clump and a few mushrooms and cheddar cheese on top. how is that risotto, they must be making a fortune on that one!!
no courtesy check by staff to see if the meal was ok (cos if they had i would have complained) and staff didnt even notice we were there or that we had finished our dinners and left. aint going back i promise you,,,,,,,

Was in this pub one night and its the worst Ive ever been to,wont be back.

Ladies toilet had 4 cubicles, one not working and toilet paper in only one of the three remaining cubicles-this was on a busy night.

I was a charged three different prices for three rounds of the same drinks, when I complained oh sorry nothing we can do!!!!

My friend bought a pint of lager,it looked and was watery -another person in my company thought he had bought cider!!!

Milnes you can keep it,I would not recommend this pub to my worst enemy.

went to this pub a few weeks ago, on a saturday nite.
Iread about this pub and i have to say i totally disagree with peoples comments,, the staff made my nite, they were so friendly and helpful.
The two young ladys that looked after us were anna and lainey,
They made our vist so welcoming and recommended places for us to vist.
If your looking for a nice quite nite for dinner do not go here on the weekend because the atmosphere is amazing and the dj wonderful.

Only thing is the toilets are rubbish, but the staff were very apologtic about this..
peace out
