I always think that this pub could do with a good clean-up. Literally a good clean-up - I don't just mean getting rid of all the students ( both university and the private school from up the road) and hospital staff (from across the road).Unsurprisingly, there's always people in this pub - I guess that's got to do with the convenient location and the passing trade, as it's not a pub that you'd go far out of your way to get to. Nevertheless there can be lively/raucous nights here too. You might imagine that I don't like this pub, but that's not true. But I would like it even more if the bar staff were a bit more friendly, the toilets were cleaner and the lights less bright. The beer is alright and there is an adequate choice available. Next time I'm in (hopefully not until the Festival starts) I'll pay closer attention to prices, quality of drinks, food etc. and I will send you the details.
But for now, I would recommend that if there is nowhere else to go then go to the Doctors - literally go to the doctors!

I feel that the reviewer is pretty mixed up here, he is trying to review pubs in edinburgh and he is against students and medical staff (I would of thought the students were one of the largest pub consumers in edinburgh). Stick to your day job, and I hope for your sake this aint it. Also i have been drinking in the Doctors for a few years now and it has gone through alot of staff and managers, but i feel it is a great pub and worth a try.

Not very good pub. The staff were rather rude and not friendly at all.Not recommended.you could find the better pubs just yards away.

Wow, mixed reviews. I´ve always found the beer to be cheap and excellent. They also offer discounts to certain university societies and (formerly?) medical staff. Admittedly the food is average and they have problems with staff which I think is caused by a high turnover.
In reply to the original reviewer; if you don´t like students and medical staff don´t drink in a pub right opposite a university and medical campus. Dork! What are you, anyway? A squaddie? You certainly seem to have trouble with people with an education.

I am sorry but this pub really stinks! We moved seat to avoid the smell, but it stinks so much that we had to leave the pub for some fresh air!

I work across the road and have ended up there a few times. We have boycotted Doctor´s for the past 6 months because the service is slow, the food is terrible even if they manage to get your order right and the toilets aren´t very nice.

I have always found Doctors bar to be a thouroughly clean bar, as a regular their I honestly can say that standards are fairly good, the beer is top quality and food good value for money.
