A large, old fashioned pub with lots of style is located just off the east end of Princes Street. It has an ornate Victorian ceiling, mirrors and mahogany panelling. There is around 20 malt whiskies and a dozen ales with some interesting guest ales. The seats are comfortable and if you get a seat in the Gallery Bar you can observe all the action below. A nice sounding selection of bar meals including my favourites mussels in a rich garlic sauce and a sensational banoffi pie. The Guildford Arms is a proper pub just like they used to be! Open hours: 11am-11pm Mon-Wed; 11am-midnight Thur-Sat; 12.30-11pm Sun

The drinks are good the service efficient and it has the best door staff i have ever met. It has to be the best pub in Scotland. Submitted by Alan & Fiona on Friday, November 16, 2007: We enjoyed several nights at the Guilford Arms during our visit in 1999. Best pub we found in Edinburgh. If and when we get to return, we shall definately look up the Guilford Arms. I´m still telling people in the States about it 8 years later. Submitted by Mac on Tuesday, August 08, 2006: Went into the Arms on Monday 7th July for lunch with my wife. Great service, great attention, polite and friendly staff and the best bowl of Cullen Skink in Edinburgh. Such a contrast to the Cafe Royal next door where we walked out. Well done, Guildford Arms. Submitted by annabel on Thursday, July 27, 2006: lovely wee pub.
not too crowded, good ales, efficient service. Submitted by kevin on Sunday, July 02, 2006: I was very fortunate to live and work in Edinburgh. Every day after work I would walk across the street to meet friends for a few bevies. I look forward to doing it again someday. The Guildford is perhaps the best pub I have ever known. Gosh, do I miss it.If Bill Tulley is still around, tell him Kevin from the states says hello! Submitted by Steve on Thursday, March 09, 2006: As a Scotsman working abroad, I´m always glad to touch down in Edinburgh...I always proceed directly to The Arms for a pint and to meet up with friends & family. It has become a bit of a tradition with us. My flight´s in at 1600, see you in the Arms at 1700! Submitted by Charlie on Saturday, February 11, 2006: In answer to Heathers comments about smelling of old mens farts!!!! I confess it was me.But I had to force it out just so "YOU" would leave and take that caked makeup face with you,oh! and bye the way everyone was talking about you snogging the face off your girlfriend.Yup! we saw you! Submitted by Peter B. on Thursday, June 30, 2005: I have been coming to the "Arms" on and off for over 20 years on trips from Australia. It is my favourite Edinburgh pub by a mile.
On my last visit, May 2005 they had a whiskey night ( Isle of Jura if i remember)and that was terrific.
The service, ambience and of course the beer at the "Arms " is always good and would recommend it. Submitted by Sarah on Friday, September 17, 2004: We found this pub completely by accident when in Ediburgh last weekend. What a great place. We ate in the gallery where the food was lovely, wine well priced (including champagne so reasonable we ordered a bottle for dessert!). Since we´ve got home, it´s been the place we´ve told people about most. I would recommend it to anyone going to Edinburgh. I´m looking forward to when I can go again! Submitted by William H on Thursday, July 08, 2004: I was there 10 years ago and thought it was wonderful. The people behind the bar were very friendly and it was a pleasant place to have a pint and a rest. Have friends traveling to Edinburgh and have suggested they make it one of their stops. Submitted by thelma on Saturday, June 12, 2004: One of the best pubs in the world. Go one & all if you have the chance.
Please say hello to the owner David who may remember me.
Thelma Submitted by richard trainer on Saturday, April 10, 2004: tis a damn fine pub. worked here for a while in 2000 with cool bunch! sit up stairs and order a noice lunch Submitted by Christian N on Saturday, January 31, 2004: Being from America this is one of those bars that I was looking for on my first trip to Scotland with my wife Jen. The Guildford Arms will always hold a special place for us both. This bar has character, history, and just a comfortable feel to it. Commenting on Heather´s diatribe, sure this place is old and traditional but that it what makes it special and gives it an edge. My wife and I have made a point to return and walk through that circular door one day again. If your in Edinburgh go to the Guildford Arms or regret it forever. Submitted by heather on Thursday, November 20, 2003: this seems to be the favourite pub , but no one has written any comments about it ! does it leave people speechless/gobsmaked?? its old, its traditional - but what´s so special? i think that it´s all the old codgers that vote for this pub - and it smells of old mens farts !!
