 I think this pub was called something else until recently (but I don't know what), but it now sports the cool sounding name of The Cougar Lounge. And with sofa's you can get in easily enough but can't get out of it is a bit loungy. Not a traditional Leith drinking den it attracts a younger, more trendy clientele. During the summer, (usually on a Wednesday in Scotland) it is nice to sit outside and watch the Leith world going by along the busy Bernard Street. Nice bar, good for a chat as the music is not too loud, but it also hosts live music. (Rock, pop and blues).

I havent been in since it changed to the timberbush so cant comment on it but i think it is safe to say the cougar is and always will be missed. coke heads and chavs is a bit over the top mate, the bar staff might have been a bit wild but they are hardly chavs. is there a cougar bebo been made?

Funny... the romanticised version of the cougar from the last few previous posters seems a little bit hard to take seriously! Last manager seemed an ok lad but knew fuck all bout what makes a good pub. (chavs and coke heads are not what u want mate!) Cougar Cubs?.. Decent cover band but the dross that came with them?!! Timberbush is hardly pub of the year but at least the place isnae full of arseholes any more!

you can´t please everybody, the cougar certainly didn´t, but at least we formed a community in which friends were made and still remain... you couldn´t knock it unless you got involved.

Cougar lounge rocks, went to Leith with a pal for a fun excursion from Belfast back in Jan and went into town - the crowd on George Street were a pack of stalkin weirdos,should have stayed at the Cougar all night we had a laugh and Nick and the staff made us feel so welcome, make sure you stop off definately worthwhile anytime but especially when your on your holidays yeeeeeeehaaaaa.

Dunno how i managed 2 stumble accross this site but glad i did... Although i´ve not ventured 2 the cougar 4 quite some time now i can´t imagine its changed very much! have to say i find all the slagging a bit harsh, fair enough it can be a bit bland. The people have always seemed friendly and I´ve seen the Jazz band and they were great. I have to be honest, some of the people who have posted half intelligent comments such as "this place is crap", etc, really need to take a good look at themselves. That really doesn´t say anything, apart from the lack of brain cells that these people have.
Basically, if you want a good serviced, quite lively and warmly atmospheric drinking environmen try out The Cougar Lounge - as personally I think it is a very welcoming pub. If you don´t, and you want rough and tumble, go to somewhere like Port O´Leith.

I walked pass this ever day going to and from work never poped in due to bad reputaion. My friend asked me to meet there so i did well truely suprised what a cool place lots off people chilling out watching news and having lunch. We ordered food and fantastic can´t say anything else nice price and loads on plate best burgar in Edinburgh. Service great really friendly .Well done to the cougar team!! The locals need to understand this site isn´t just for them it´s for people looking for somewhere nice to go.After going there one evening i soon realised this was one of those horrendous places,you can only go if you ARE a regular,i have rarely been made to feel so unwelcome by staff and customers at a bar in leith.

The Cougar Lounge is the type of pub that you can feel totally relaxed in regardless if you are a big group or a couple. My mate and I go regularly on a Friday night to chill and sip wine and have a girlie giggly! As for the food being sh*te - I have had lunch there on many an occasion, in fact last Saturday, and the food was absolutely excellent, choice was great and the chef came out to ask us how the food was. This is the best pub, chilled sometimes, great band on a Thurs night and good DJ´s on a sat night!

Cougar Lounge is a fab bar! Nice and relaxing family pub during the day with a livelier atmosphere at night and weekends. Nicky knows almost his locals by name - he and the bar staff are always very chatty and friendly. Every time we´ve eaten there the food has been excellent (didn´t think they served macaroni!!) Never had a bad night in the Cougar Lounge!

I went there for food last sunday, and it took ages to get served. About half an hour after we ordered the waitress came and told us what we ordered wasn´t available and we´d need to reorder. If that wasn´t bad enough, it took another half hour for them to cook it, and when they had, it sat in the kitchen for 5 minutes while the waitress cleaned some glasses instead. And if that wasn´t enough, the food, when it finally arrived, was sh*te. Well seeing the new waiter didn´t come up and ask us if everything was OK, if he had my girlfriends wee sister was gonna smash a plate of cold stodgy macaroni cheese in his face.
The staff were friendly enough in a gormless kind of way, but no one apologised or offered us a discount.
All in all, the worst pub I´ve encountered in Edinburgh. Steer clear!
