The Royal Mile Tavern is situated on...wait for it... The Royal Mile! (aka The High Street). Surprise, surprise! It offers real ales, a large selection of whiskies and fine eating. It has recently gone a bit more upmarket and attracts tourists as well as regulars/locals.

Submitted by Mark on Sunday, September 16, 2007: Did not believe a tavern at the Royal Mile could be racist and discriminate on skin colour. Absolule shame!! Made me wait for 30 mins and did not bother to take my order while they served other ´white´ skins.... Disgusting.... Submitted by Natalie Incledon (Haggis) on Saturday, October 21, 2006: I actually worked for the Royal Mile Tavern for 3 months, in between my Europe travels (I´m from Austalia). It is indeed the best pub in Edinburgh! It has a huge range of beverages, great food and above all, an amazing atmosphere (especially with the live music!). The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Submitted by Joel on Wednesday, September 20, 2006: I was in Edinburgh on vacation for 10 days this past June. I went to the Royal Mile Tavern quite a few times in this week and actually made a few local friends that I´m still in touch with. One of them had David play Freebird for me the night before I left and I was toasted by the whole pub. This just shows the hospitality of the Scots. Either that, or I have a drinking problem. Either way, this is a great and friendly place to hang out in Edinburgh. Submitted by Dave 4w2 on Saturday, November 12, 2005: Was here a week ago with my in laws fae Holland. We had a great time !
Friday night David & Duncan played and they had the place going and the Dutch squad dancing !!!! They were so impressed that I had to take them back on Saturday. D&D weren´t playing, but the guy who was, had the crowd singing and dancing. 2 great nights...I will be back. I was in Edinburgh a time ago, and I liked this pub a lot. Submitted by Natalie Tomkowiak on Friday, September 10, 2004: This is a place where everyone can find sth for himself. You can just sit and chat with friends, dance, listen to live music, sing... Stuff is very kind and outgoing.. and the atmosphere is really warm..I strongly recommend visiting Royal Mile Tavern on Friday or Sunday, when David&Duncan are playin`.

Some good live music too - go when Dave´s on, he gets the place going. He´s quality. Ideal meeting place before Whistle Binkies (see my website: igmoss.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk) or Nicol Edwards.
