Located in the middle of Grassmarket, The Beehive Inn is surrounded by lots of other pubs but it is one of the more popular establishments. It is lot less olde-wurlde than a lot of the other pubs in the area. You can sit outside in the summertime and watch the world go by and they do a great Sunday roast too. They also have a small beer garden out the back. It's a popular pub that attracts a mixed crowd and it is open Mon-Sun 11am-1am.

I found the company bearable but was distressed to find a disabled haggis in the toilet. The staff were most abusive but all in all had a bloody good night Submitted by Peter on Monday, April 07, 2008: I spend many a magical night with my boyfriend Chris, get your own man Becky or there will be trouble! Worst bar/restaurant I have ever been to in my life.
After the bartender told us we were not allowed to order food in the pub (while other people were continuing to order food all around us) we were forced to go to the upstairs for a bite to eat.
The waitress up there was MISERABLE. She looked like it was a hassle that we came up there and was extremely rude to us the entire meal.
Our ONE starter took an hour and a half (no lie) to come to our table and the main dishes took another half an hour. The food was awful and the waitress didn´t seem to care that we barely touched it.
I would never, EVER go back to this place again. The food was disgusting and the service terrible. I am in the service industry and would never treat customers the way we were treated here.
Do not go here! Submitted by Hugh Jarse on Monday, August 20, 2007: Visited recently with a works outing. Spent over £50 on a round of drinks and then were asked to leave because two of my staff were signing out side whilst having a smoke, shocking! asked for money back as we barely sipped our drinks where we were given 30 seconds to leave or else the police would be called. Truly boring pub!Made as welcome as a fart in s space suit. Treated horribly and one of my staff members were racially abused. Police have been notified and investigation pending. Submitted by Sarah Huntingford on Monday, December 04, 2006: Visited here on a Friday night at about 8:30pm, only to witness a man being glassed in the head, police and ambulance turn up, and the place emptied in the space of two minutes...unfortunately we had to stay and wait for our food to arrive, which was average pub grub.
Wouldn´t go back there, had planned to spend the night drinking there, but it looked rowdy from our hotel bar for the rest of the evening, with police coming and going until the late hours.
All in all, a bit of an "are you local" feel to it, which I found odd in such a diverse area as Edinburgh. Submitted by daniele macchi on Sunday, September 10, 2006: I was there in 2000 during my first visit to Scotland and I had there my first haggis. I am glad to see that most people share my good opinions and memory about the place. Submitted by fiona boyd on Monday, August 28, 2006: I was really disappointed that the beehive has no disabled accessible toilets despite the Disability Discrimination Act stating that reasonable adjustments must be made by October 2004!!! When I asked staff where the nearest toilets were they were clueless. Submitted by Milan (Ireland) on Thursday, April 27, 2006: Have to work on your cooking the portions weren´t anywhere near generous plus i had my jacket stolen their, i think? Submitted by alan on Thursday, June 16, 2005: I found the beehive to be a good pub, with friendly staff.Everyone from the doormen to the barstaff were friendly and very helpfull.I would recomend it to anyone looking for a good lively night out. Submitted by Brian MacDiarmid on Friday, April 01, 2005: Truly awful pub, what it lacks in character and atmosphere it tries to make up with loud, obnoxious yobs, blaring music, and the faint whiff of ammonia masking what I´m not sure.
Truly one to miss, particularly on Saturday night whne it´s filled beyond capacity and teeters nightlong on the edge of a riot.
