 Not the classiest of joints but great for a cheap pint, a game of pool and some hangover food. They have £1 per pint nights where it's just a pound a pint ALL NIGHT! Great if you're skint. With regular comedy nights in the cellar bar it's a popular hangout for students and backpackers. There is also big screen sports coverage and is a good place to catch the big sporting events. Mon-Sat 11.30am-1am, Sun 12.30pm-1am

I´m from the states and The Tron was the first pub I´ve ever been to and the first place I could legally drink (yay!) I love the atmosphere at the Tron but I was so disappointed when I returned a month later and they refused to serve me without my passport! They were the only pub I knew that did that. They literally kicked me out, even though I had been served there before. I understand, company policies and what not, but the last thing I´m going to do when I go out to drink is bring my passport.

I Remember in 1976 this Bar was the best in Town .
Hastily the Dog were a great band and the place was done up like a Sailing Ship.
I used to go there before going to Teviot Row ,Chambers Street Unions or Grindlay Street Union to see what I could pick up.
Sometimes I was so gassed I picked up NOTHING but once I got unlucky and got a pull, took her home and now she is THE BOSS my wife! Should have stayed sober and stayed at home watching tv but boys will be boys!!

I´m angry. The Dreamt (my band) were meant to be playing a gig for my mate Nath tomorrow night at the Tron but they fucked up and double-booked us. So, Nathan went and sorted it out last week. Nice.
But, at half 9 tonight he got a call telling him we were cancelled and if we turned up they wouldn´t let us in. The sneaky @%&!s left this until the last minute so there was absolutely nothing Nathan could do. It turns out one of the bouncers was in the competing band (who booked in a long time after us) and he ´pulled some strings´. More like kissed some ass.
What´s more, Nathan was challenging his fans to drink the bar dry (which is actually possible downstairs as it´s just bottles). They clearly won´t be receiving that particular patronage. I think we should all continue in this spirit and never drink there again.
So here I come to it. I´m inviting you all to boycott the Tron. You´re better than they are.

The pints do seem to taste more watered down than anywhere else, not to say that they are. Not a lot to say really, its ok, staff are usually friendly enough, i just think the place is too bright.

the tron´s a decent place to go for a couple of pints to drown out what is a poor city for nightlife. As far as the crowd goes i can see most peoples objections to the student crowd e.g. pink t-shirt, probably listens to the view but may i point out that the other major crowd there are the brainless neds in shirts who have shouting contests on saturday nights. They have lot of cheek to criticise the pansy students. But on the whole the minority crowds are pretty ok and the bar staff are cool. ill give it 4 eggs.

Now I´m the kind of guy who loves big bººbs. The bigger the better. Size matters with a pair of madam melons. To cut a long story short, The Tron has some good drink offers and some good music and some alright people. It´s a bit yellow. Seriously the place looks like it´s made out of banana. The games machine robbed me of £1.50 at Cluedo for getting three questions wrong. I´ve never seen anyone in there win it so they´re not smarter than me or anything. One or two maybe think they are. But they´re probably not. That aptly named Yellow Card has offers aplenty. You need to at least pretend to be a student to get one. It´ll get you cheaper drink at The Tron but it wont let you onto a university campus. So it´s not a two-way deal. I´ll buy anyone a half pint if they see me.

Welcome to The Tron. A pub wear the beer tastes watered down (I´m not saying it physically is - it just taste like it) and the worst of the student, dare I say it, ´scene´ hang out.
The food on occasion is good. Not always, but at least 40% of the time it is nice. The staff are pretty friendly. There´s one or two who look at you in disgust because you´ve made them have to get up off their chair, but on the whole they are good people. The prices are not too bad at all. They generally have a lot of good drink offers going on. The music is varied and generally suits most peoples tastes.
Word of advice... make sure the bar staff have been to the toilet before you order your drink! Haha!

I used to go to the tron a lot back when i was a student but would never think about going now. it s went right downhill in the last few years. The poncey young team are populating it now. The ´fame academy´ ´soap stars on ice´ viewers basically. Why are people born from 1987 onwards a bunch of little pansy morons?

Loving the fact the staff at the tron feel they have to defend themselves!! The beer is probably the same as every other pint but I dunno, once word spreads it can be the end :-)
And Mr Tron tells the localls to beat it. Bet Edinburgh council licencing dept would love to hear about their friendly attitudes to locals (who in my experience are part of the licence appliation catchment).

Ok, most of the peoples comments on this page are a load of shite. I´m a regular at the tron, the bar staff are usually really damn nice! though only a few of them have been there for a lengh of time. I know people who have worked there, and none of this pissing in pints shit happened. so people, be more constructive with your time, dont spread false rumours in a forum. The drinks are all well priced, as people said, its a student bar so drinks have to be cheap!! and if you have a yellowcard theyre even cheaper. The food, its alright! not amazing, but not bad for pub grub! and its all a reasonable price!! The music is also very varied, its done a by a jukebox and there is pretty much something for everyone.

I used to work in the Tron about a year and a half ago and left after seeing a staff member pour his piss into a pint. I´m not joking. This is very serious in terms of health risks. Three members of staff, that I know of, two guys an a girl, used to piss into glasses then pour contents of said glasses into pints slyly. If you thought your pint tasted like pish in the Tron then it probably was.

Wow! What a bar!! I was amazed, pissed out of my brains, that there were actually people there that I could finally relate to!! Jimmy and Franz were great on the pool table, even when they took a swing at me. I´d have to say that hands down it´s the greatest place to swill the booze, in Edinburgh, or anywhere else for that matter!! When I was a missionary in Zambia, there wasn´t anyplace like it and finally now that I´m back home after 11 years of hard work, I need a drink!! And where better to have it?!!! Nowheres!!!!!

The Tron Bar is shockingly bad. Scabby pub, miserable staff watered down drinks and they trust the punters so much you get plastic glasses.
Nothing positive to say about this place whatsoever - wouldn´t recommend. Though, you do get a sour face with every pint, courtesy of the ever delightful Australian barstaff.

The Tron´s a cannot-miss if you can go out on a Wednesday. Pints, spirits, alcopops etc no more than £1!!! Wow. You´re supposed to have a ´Yellow Card´ (my mate´s got one), but the staff never ask to see it. The Tron, like Whistle Binkies across the street, is built into the South Bridge vaults, and has some interesting history. I like the place, everytime i go there is always a warm welcome from staff and door men (well door women aswell). Been about 5 times now and everytime i go there is always students from my now previous college (Stevenson). Very lately i purchased a yellow card even after informing the bar man my course was finished.
Music is always good choice: rock and hip-hop most nights. Sometimes soul on the bottom floor!

yea i have the yellow card and its £1 a pint of tetleys every wednesday what i very much enjoy. i gotta enrole in a free course next college semester and get a new student card to get a new yelow card (talk about milking the system) good to play pool and try beat you mates and its not like the dodgy loch inn (lochend rough pub) where the winner stays on and im sure its that guy with a mostache who has been keeping a tight grip of the pool cue for 20 years now haha. well anywya i meat a chinese bird in there and i had a date the next day so its gotta be kinda good if not cheap. it gets really busy on wed nights and you gotta watch out for mindless idiots who dont care how many drinks your carrying as long as they shout for that girl with the mini skirt before she walks away. its better to go there with over 3 friends and the music is loud but its a good starting point if you hitting the clubs later. enjoy 7/10

the tron is great on wednesday for a pound a drink with yellow card, yes it is full of students and backpackers which makes it good for drinkin games and banter, Me and my mates are sure to be there on wednesday as we go religiously!
