SEASON ANALYSIS

Aberdeen may just be emerging from the shadows of some disappointing recent seasons.

Last season they appointed a young, ambitious manager in Steve Paterson who likes his sides to play attractive, attacking football. Results began to improve under his guidance & they finished last season strongly.

I would expect further improvements from Aberdeen this season on the field although off the field they are cash strapped in attracting new players. Some of their players who were out of contract this summer faced accepting reduced terms or not having their contracts renewed. This led to the transfer of the Young brothers, Derek & Darren, to SPL rivals Dunfermline.

Their manager has a great knowledge of the lower leagues & has been plundering this market for bargain buys. i.e. last season they have bought Steve Tosh from Falkirk, Paul Sheerin from Ayr & Leigh Hinds from Clyde. Tosh & Sheerin in particular have been good buys as they are experienced players who always give 100% in games.

Their attitude seems to have rubbed off on other players at the club as before Aberdeen just seemed to be a club going through the motions & lacking passion on the pitch.

During the summer break they managed to sign 2 strikers despite theit cash problems - Scott Booth, an Aberdeen old boy, and David Zdrillic from Walsall. Both players will add valuable experience to a somewhat young Aberdeen squad.

The major critisism of Aberdeen last season would be their lack of goals & a reliance on a young inexperienced strikeforce. These signings will definitely help in this department & should see more goals in the 'Goals For' column.

As for a prediction, well as the SPL is so competitive I can see a Top 6 place just eluding Aberdeen again this season.

Prediction :- League 7th
