Dancing Forth - The Scottish Show
The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (Edinburgh) performed five shows at this year's Fringe Festival and we were lucky enough to see them perform on their final night.
A hugely enjoyable show that offers unique Scottish entertainment and was the only Scottish dance show at the 2010 Fringe Festival.
They take you on an inspired journey around the castles of this great country with a charming mixture of traditional Scottish dancing, songs and music for which Scotland is internationally known.
This dance society, which is also a registered charity, are a very talented bunch and judging by the calf muscles on all the dancers, have clearly practised a lot! On the night we went, they had to call in two substitute dancers at short notice not that this was noticable, well not to us anyway.
I particularly enjoyed the fiddlers who did some spellbinding solo pieces producing that distinctive Scottish country sound that draws forth such emotion.
The dances are very well arranged and presented, and the clear enjoyment of the dancers is infectious. Be sure to catch them at next year's Festival!
The two singers Fiona Main and Neil French (pictured) both hailing from the Kingdom of Fife had beautiful voices. Fiona also has a very expressive face and her powerful voice easily filled the room without a microphone.
